A last minute adventure.

While the community that I grew up in is quite small in population, it certainly doesn't lack in beauty. The rugged coastline features beautiful flat rocks that the ocean crashes against. As a child, and even now as an adult, I often find myself sitting down on these rocks and "peering" at the sea.

I've always thought about how beautiful this backdrop would be for photoshoot, especially one more creative in nature. One that highlights the natural beauty of the backdrop and the subject. While I was home over this summer, I mentioned this idea to my sister who quickly volunteered herself as my model. I sort of knew she would so I can't say I was surprised but I was certainly excited! After a quick raid of our mother's closet we found several pieces and finally landed on this lovely silk white dress (not quite sure what my mother's intention for it was - lol). My sister's beauty radiates from the inside out. She's a force of nature, a fierce mama of two with the kindest soul. It also helps that she's absolutely stunning with her natural waves and freckly skin. So, within a couple of hours we had the three most important elements figured out - the location, my model, and the outfit - we were good to go!

We shot for about an hour and a half, but it really felt like minutes. The point is surrounded by water from three sides, which is ideal for moving around with the light at sunset. By using the rocks and moving around the setting sun we were able to get many different lighting options.

I love how these images turned out! They're soft with muted tones, but bold in beauty and the glow of the setting sun. Sometimes, the last minute adventures create the most stunning memories (and photos!).
